LingoLab is a private speech therapy practice established in 2025. Located in a comfortable, home-based practice, LingoLab aims to provide speech therapy services to children of all ages - from preschoolers developing their first words to school-aged learners building literacy and fluency.
Our goal is to help each child communicate with confidence and joy while implementing evidence-based interventions. We are neurodiversity affirming and assist learners with all levels of difficulties.
Hello! My name is Clarissa, I am a speech therapist and the founder of LingoLab.
I’m passionate about helping children develop clear speech, strong language and literacy skills, and confidence in communication.
I completed my studies at the University of Cape Town, graduating cum laude in 2019. I went on to complete my community service year at Tintswalo Hospital in Mpumalanga. There, I worked as the sole speech therapist, providing services across a 400-bed acute hospital - an experience that strengthened both my clinical skills and my appreciation for the diversity of communication needs across different ages and backgrounds.
After returning to Cape Town, I spent several years working in a private practice, where I gained extensive experience in speech sound disorders, language delays, early communication, and literacy intervention. These experiences inspired me to branch out on my own and establish LingoLab, a space dedicated to supporting children through evidence-based, engaging, and individualised therapy.

Articulation refers to how speech sounds are made. Some children find it tricky to pronounce certain sounds clearly (for example, saying “wabbit” instead of “rabbit”). Therapy focuses on helping children learn how to move their lips, tongue, and jaw to produce sounds accurately and confidently.

Language skills allow children to understand and use words to communicate. This includes understanding instructions, learning new vocabulary, forming sentences, and telling stories. Therapy helps children strengthen both their receptive language and expressive language.

Literacy includes reading, spelling, and writing - all of which build on a child’s language foundation. At LingoLab, evidence-based programs such as RAVE-O are used to support children in developing decoding, fluency, comprehension, and confidence as readers and writers.

Communication is about more than words - it includes gestures, facial expressions, tone, and social interaction. Some children benefit from Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems, such as picture symbols, sign language, or speech-generating devices, to communicate. Therapy focuses on helping children connect with others, take turns in conversation, and use language - whether spoken or supported by AAC - confidently across different settings.

Fluency refers to the flow and rhythm of speech. Some children experience interruptions such as repetitions, prolongations, or blocks which is known as stuttering. Therapy focuses on implementing strategies to increase speech fluency and to help children feel comfortable and confident when speaking.

LingoLab also offers training for parents, teachers, and professionals who want to better support children’s speech, language, and literacy development. These sessions are practical and interactive, equipping communication partners with strategies they can use in everyday settings.

RAVE-O is an evidence-based, multi-componential approach designed to help children develop fluency, comprehension, and confidence in reading. It teaches students the ‘secrets’ hidden in words - sounds, letter patterns, meanings, grammar, and roots - showing how all these elements connect in every word.
RAVE-O uses the POSSuM approach, What’s that?
It allows for children to develop a reading circuit in their brain by making critical connections. The program combines instruction across the multiple aspects of word knowledge including sounds, phonics, vocabulary, parts of speech and suffix work.
Phonology: the basic sound units of language
Orthography: spelling patterns
Semantics: the way language conveys meaning
Syntax: phrase and sentence structure
Morphology: units of meaning within words (e.g. past tense -ed)
WHO IS RAVE-O FOR?
Students in Grades 1-4 who:
